Motson not convinced by Newcastle

John Motson delivered a damning verdict on Newcastle United when looking ahead to their clash with Leicester City on Saturday.

The famous commentator shared that there was no easy game for the Magpies and there was unlikely to be one until Mike Ashley handed Rafa Benitez cash to spend in January.

Motson shared that in his opinion if Benitez fails to be given funds to improve his squad in January than the Magpies are destined to hover around the bottom half of the Premier League.

“Well no game is easy for Newcastle now until they finally persuade Mike Ashley to release the purse strings for Rafa Benitez in January because if they don’t then I still think they’ll be hovering around the bottom of the table then,” said the commentator on talkSPORT (Friday September 28, 14:41).

“There’s no evidence to suggest they’re about to go on a winning run, Leicester in the mean time, are doing a little bit better than people were willing to give Claude Puel credit for, as he was supposed to be the proverbial first Premier League manager to get axed as we come to what we call the sacking season, which is October and November, but he’s holding up quite well.

“I think in many ways there have been some pluses from what I’ve seen, I’m going to be their next week for you guys, talkSPORT, next week when they take on Everton.”

OPINION

Motson really doesn’t think much of the Magpies and he especially seems to believe that they are destined for a terrible season. While the famous voice avoids stating the dreaded ‘R’ word, relegation, he clearly implies that is on the cards with comments. Motson may also not directly predict the Magpies’ upcoming clash with the Foxes but he seems to be leaning towards backing a win for Puel’s side. Hopefully that isn’t the case from a Magpies perspective as if they’re not going to get their first win of the season on Saturday than they at least need to pick up a point from their upcoming match. Benitez’s side already lurk in the bottom three and while it’s still the very early stages of the season, the club will still want to get more points on the board as soon as possible. Given that Magpies fans will start to worry about their club if their form doesn’t improve over the course of the next month, it’s imperative that the Magpies get points when playing sides like Leicester.
