Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has predicted that Newcastle United will break their Premier League duck against Leicester City this weekend.
The Magpies are just one of three teams in the division without a win this season and they currently sit in the bottom three after six games.
Merson has however predicted that they will finally get a 1-0 win against the Foxes, who have nine points and sit in ninth position in the table.
In his predictions for Sky Sports, he said: “Newcastle have got to win. They had a good result going to Crystal Palace and drawing 0-0 but Leicester are like a bag of Revels, you never know what you’re going to get.
“One week, they’re well beaten and Bournemouth then the next, they win at home. I’m going to go for a Newcastle home win.”

This is a big prediction from Merson ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. Newcastle have not shown any kind of form heading into this one, while Leicester have been in decent nick under Claude Puel. However, you can see where he is coming from with regards to the Foxes. One week they will look brilliant and the next they will look really poor, and they need to try and find some consistency if they want to really challenge in the top half of the table. So, depending on which Leicester turn up, Newcastle could well be in with a chance. That being said, Rafa Benitez must get his team selection spot on, and not be too conservative in his approach. You can’t help but feel that Newcastle could have a good team if they were unshackled, but so far this season everything has been a bit reserved. That can’t continue if they want to climb the table.
