Newcastle United legend Nobby Solano has bewildering chosen to back Joselu to deliver the goods for his side ahead of them taking on Leicester City.

The retired Magpies winger in his latest column for The Chronicle admitted that his former side losing Salomon Rondon to injury was a big blow but was confident that Joselu could provide the goals in his absence.

“This team have been together for a long time now so they should know each other well enough and be capable of getting a win here,” wrote Solano for the local paper.

“Losing Rondon is a big blow of course, but Joselu has a couple of goals to his name now and if the service is good he has shown he knows where the net is.”

Solano’s decision to back Joselu is naive as he will never be a proven goalscorer based on his track record but to do in such a bewildering style by claiming that if the service is good then he knows where the net is, is a whole different level of blind faith that borders on unfathomable.

The Spanish forward, who earns £40,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac), may have scored two goals this season but when chances were put on a plate for him in the last campaign when the services was constantly good, he struggled for goals.

Joselu was a let-down in his 2017/18 campaign as he mustered only four goals in 32 appearances last season and easily could have double that if he truly knew where the net was.

The Magpies are searching for their first win of the season against the Foxes and their inability to be prolific in front of goal is the huge question that needs to be answered for them to get a victory on Saturday.

Solano may have boldly suggested that Joselu can provide the answers but it seems the Toon legend is barking up the tree by having such confident in the misfiring hitman who constantly fails to score.
