Many Newcastle United supporters were in meltdown on social media after it was reported that Paul Dummett and Federico Fernandez wouldn’t be available for Saturday’s clash with Leicester City.
The Daily Mail reported on Friday that Dummett and Fernandez were set to start the match against the Foxes but now would not feature due to both picking up hamstring injuries.
The newspaper also claimed that right-back DeAndre Yedlin had an ankle complaint but should pass a late fitness test in order to take part in his side’s next game.
One Magpies supporter tweeted that if this was Football Manager than he would quit and restart his game while another simply claimed their side were now doomed on Saturday.

OPINION
No wonder Magpies fans are in meltdown and panicking about the clash with the Foxes as it isn’t just any old players that have been sidelined. Dummett is head and shoulders above the other left-back options at the club and without him in team, then you fear the Foxes will have a field day. If Yedlin ends up failing his fitness test then they would also mean the Magpies would be weak on both flanks of their defence as Benitez didn’t sign a capable right-back in the summer which was required. In regards to Fernandez, the Magpies surprisingly have a decent amount of depth in their central defensive position so should cope without him. However the summer recruit has been in fabulous form this season and it would be a shame if an injury saw him lose all his momentum. While one fan is already planning a trip to the bar over the thought of Javier Manquillo playing, maybe Benitez will somehow manage to cope despite this injury blow.
