Some Newcastle United fans were less than thrilled to say the least after it was confirmed that the club had signed Federico Fernandez from Swansea City.
The Magpies confirmed that they had successfully complete the signing of the centre-back, who has 32 caps for Argentina, via their official website on transfer deadline day.
Fernandez has previously worked with current Magpies manager Rafa Benitez at Napoli and is eligible to face Tottenham on Saturday in the club’s first game of the Premier League season.
Despite the defender’s previous Premier League experience and prior success under Benitez, a section of Magpies supporters opted to slam that their side had signed him.

OPINION
Not the warmest of welcomes on Twitter for Fernandez but a lot of the reactions aren’t his fault. With the summer transfer window now slammed shut, fans can clearly evaluate their club’s transfer business. While Fernandez is an okay signing for the Magpies to make, given his Premier League experience and Rafa Benitez need for another centre-back then news of his arrival shouldn’t get such a hostile reception. However as he is the last new face to arrive this summer and the Magpies still look weak in a few areas then supporters are rightly frustrated over another disappointing transfer window.
