The future of Newcastle United youth coach Peter Beardsley is still to be decided despite the fact he was suspended seven months ago over bullying and racism claims, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reports on its website even though the club are conducting an investigation about the allegations made against him – which resulted in his suspension – there has been no definitive decision made on his status at St James’ Park.

The investigation is being headed by managing director Lee Charnley, but he reportedly put the dispute to one side so efforts could be concentrated on the Magpies’ transfer activity, which came to a conclusion on Thursday (9 August).

OPINION

Newcastle definitely need to get their priorities straight here. Getting the right players in is undoubtedly important for the future of the club, but allegations such as these need to be taken more seriously. The fact that seven months have passed and they have still not made a decision on the future of Beardsley is rather frustrating, as the situation could have been sorted not long after the complaints emerged. This saga needs to be concluded imminently, especially if the alleged bullying is true. United should not want to be associated with a figure who has had allegations such as these made against him, so it is rather surprising that they did not want to clear the air sooner. They now have no excuse but to return to proceedings now the transfer window has slammed shut, and hopefully Charnley can prevent this matter from going on any further than it already has.
