Some Newcastle fans have been expressing their support after fan groups combined to write an open letter to owner Mike Ashley.

The Twitter account ‘The Magpie Group’, a combination of multiple fan groups such as ‘#IfRafaGoesWeGo’, Ashley Out and the Newcastle United Supporters Trust, tweeted an open letter to Ashley about their determination to push through a change of ownership.

With the Magpies signing just four senior players so far this summer, with two permanent arrivals, a loan and a free transfer – Yoshinori Muto’s move subject to a work permit – these fan groups have released a letter explaining their frustration.

One Toon fan said that the statement was spot on.

Nothing but Newcastle have rounded up the best tweets from a section of Toon fans on the open letter:

OPINION

Newcastle United are a massive club, with a great stadium and an obviously terrific fanbase. They are obviously frustrated with the lack of progression over the last few years, with a recent relegation and struggles in the Premier League. If they got a new owner who had some ambition to invest in the club, they could be a real force, particularly with Rafael Benitez as the manager. Top players would love to join the Magpies, if the club had the money to pay for them, it’s one of the most famous names in world football and they have one of the most passionate fan bases around. The potential is almost limitless for what this club could achieve under new ownership, which is the very source of the St. James Park faithful’s frustrations.
