Newcastle United’s proposed loan swap deal with West Bromwich Albion over exchanging the services of Dwight Gayle and Salomon Rondon is now unlikely to happen, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster’s live transfer blog (Wednesday 1st of August, 9:59) states that the Baggies are unlikely to agree to the Magpies’ proposed loan deal for Rondon as the Championship side won’t agree to purchasing Gayle at the end of the deal.

Sky Sports report that aside from refusing to meet the Magpies’ demand to automatically acquire Gayle once he loan expires, the Baggies aren’t prepared to pay the level of wages he requires.

It is believed that due to this Rondon’s proposed move to St James Park has stalled as the two clubs are struggling to find an agreement.

OPINION

It seems if Benitez wants to welcome Rondon to the Magpies anytime soon then he has to find another way to convince the Baggies to part company with their forward. It seems there are two reasons stopping the Baggies from successfully signing Gayle this summer and it’s clear they aren’t the easiest of issues to overcome. The Championship club are no doubt reluctant to commit to buying Gayle outright even if they win promotion to the Premier League. The current Magpies forward is a prolific force in England’s second-tier but his track record in the top-flight will hardly want to see the Baggies commit themselves to purchasing him. Also the recently relegated side are also unlikely to budge when it comes to matching Gayle’s wage requirements as they’re no doubt looking to not to overspend ahead of spending a season in England’s second-tier. Several clubs have ended up financially ruining themselves by splashing the cash to get back to the Premier League and the Baggies are wise to be reluctant to welcome a potential high-earner to the club.
