A number of Newcastle United fan groups have come together and written an open letter to owner Mike Ashley over their displeasure at his running of the club.

The Twitter account ‘The Magpie Group’ tweeted a statement expressing their feelings about the current situation of the Magpies with a scathing attack directed at the Sports Direct chief.

Numerous fan groups including ‘#IfRafaGoesWeGo’, Ashley Out and the Newcastle United Supporters Trust have put their names to this open letter and combined to become The Magpie Group.

These groups are expressing their frustration at the perceived lack of investment in the club, including in this current summer transfer window, where they’ve signed four players so far this summer with one loan in Kenedy, a free transfer in Ki Sung Yeung and two permanent buys in the shape of Fabian Schar and Martin Dubravka, while Yoshinori Muto is awaiting international clearance to become signing number five.

OPINION

There is a lot of anger and frustration in that letter from people that obviously care deeply about Newcastle United. However, there is also a lot of truth and hard facts in there that Mike Ashley simply cannot argue with. They talk about the lack of investment in the training ground, the academy and the first-team players, which is absolutely evident. They also mention about potential takeover bids that have got to a certain stage and fell through. This is a club with so much potential, as mentioned in the letter, they have a great manager who can lead them to much better times should he have the players at his disposal. At the moment, he doesn’t, the club will have to make do with simply surviving in the division next season, such is the lack of quality and investment in this summers transfer window. The four signings they’ve made so far is just not enough for Rafa to work with, fans will hope there areĀ better times on the horizon for the Toon.
