Newcastle United have made a bid to sign Liverpool striker Danny Ings, according to the Times.

The newspaper report on their website that the Magpies have have made an offer to the Reds in a bid to poach their unfavoured striker, who is also on the radar of Premier League trio Leicester, Southampton and Crystal Palace.

The 26-year-old has been told by Liverpool that he needs to find a new club – despite his contract expiring in two years – which has alerted the likes of United, who are seeking out another striker to add to their frontline this summer.

OPINION

It comes as no surprise that Newcastle have made a bid for Danny Ings, especially as boss Rafa Benitez is on the look-out for a new forward. He is still believed to be pursuing West Brom’s Salomon Rondon, but Ings would be a suitable alternative to solve their attacking crisis. He may not have starred much for the Reds due to the rise of Mo Salah, but he definitely has the quality to play at Newcastle. The Toon are likely to be his preferred destination, as Crystal Palace and Southampton were fighting to avoid relegation last season, which is something he will be wanting to avoid if he wants to continue playing at the highest level. His form may have dipped due to his lack of playing time at Anfield, but he may experience a resurgence if he chose to join Newcastle – and he will quickly establish himself as a firm fan favourite if he was netting goals every week if Tyneside is his favoured choice.
