Newcastle United are close to agreeing a £13.2million deal with Juventus over signing midfielder Stefano Sturaro, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian football outlet claim that Italian giants are on the verge of closing a deal with the Magpies but that the central midfielder still requires convincing to join the Premier League club.

Calciomercato report that after Sturaro had a difficult season at Juventus where he made only 12 appearances in the league, his side could finally see a club willing to pay the amount needed to get him off their books.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Yes.

The 25-year-old midfield enforcer would be a fantastic signing for Rafa Benitez to welcome to St James Park this summer as he would add steely presence due to the centre of the side’s midfield.

Sturaro is very capable of shielding the ball from his opponents, a solid tackler and is able to dictate the tempo of games through his passing ability.

The midfield kingpin has featured a grand total of 90 times for Juventus and brings with him a wealth of experience that will see him instantly be able to fit into life at St James Park.

Likely to happen?

Yes. Sturaro has consistently been linked with a move to the Magpies this summer and there’s no smoke without fire.

Juventus are likely to want the 25-year-old off his books after his latest campaign and will no doubt aid the Magpies’ quest to convince him that his future is at St James Park.

With there being no word on the contract offer that Rafa Benitez’s side are set to make to Sturaro in order to convince him to join, this deal is only close to being a certainty.

There’s also the possibility that Sturaro would rather stay at Juventus and fight for his first-team place as he has been at the club a number of years now.
