The agent of West Bromwich Albion forward Salomon Rondon has contacted Newcastle United, according to a reliable journalist.

Lee Ryder of the Newcastle Chronicle shared, via his personal Twitter account, that the 6ft 1in tall forward (Source: Transfermarkt) was seen as being a viable option for the club to sign by Rafa Benitez.

While the trusted journalist may have stated that Rondon’s agent had been back in touch, it was previously claimed by the Shields Gazette that the player’s high wages and agent fees might make him too expensive for the Magpies to sign.

OPINION

It seems the Magpies have a back-up option emerging in the form of Rondon when it comes to the club signing a new forward this summer. As based on this update it seems the player’s agent is certainly keen to see the 28-year-old rock up at St James Park this summer even if the club have doubts about how much he will cost. Shields Gazette’s report referred to Rondon having a £16.5million release clause in his current Baggies deal and it seems if it wasn’t for the player’s personal demands and costly agent then he might have been snapped up by the Magpies this summer. Benitez may be keen on the 28-year-old as he is a proven Premier League goalscorer having scored 24 goals in England’s top-flight during the 108 appearances he has made in the division, but he still sounds too costly an option to pursue. It seems that the Magpies would be better looking for a way to solve their attacking problems elsewhere and only move for Rondon at the last minute if they’re unable to recruit anyone else.
