Newcastle United have offered Matz Sels and Chancel Mbemba to Anderlecht in a £7million double deal, according to HLN .

The Belgian newspaper claim that goalkeeper Sels, 26, already has a “verbal agreement” with Anderlecht and he is close to securing a five-year contract.

HLN report that Newcastle are keen to throw defender Mbemba, 23, into what would be a package deal but the Belgian outfit will only consider it if the Premier League outfit lower their asking price for the pair.

OPINION

It appears that the exit of Sels to Anderlecht is all but done after his impressive season on loan in which he rebuilt his reputation after a difficult debut campaign at St James’ Park following his 2016 arrival from Belgium. Could teammate Mbemba now be joining the keeper at the side who finished third in last season’s Jupiler League? The defender is way down the pecking order at Newcastle and has not even made the squad for a Premier League match since last December. Rafael Benitez, it seems, wants to get rid of the Congo international, even if it means the north-east giants selling at a considerable loss. Mbemba has made 59 appearances since joining from Anderlecht in the summer of 2019 but he is perhaps a level or two below that required of a top Premier League centre-back. With Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune and Ciaran Clark ahead of him, Newcastle are clearly eager to get him off their wage bill in the coming months.
