Newcastle United are in the hunt to sign Torino right-back Lorenzo De Silvestri this summer, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Italian outlet report that the 30-year-old is attracting heavy interest from Serie A and elsewhere, with the Magpies and Leicester City said to be admirers of the 6ft 1in ace [Transfermarkt].

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Torino boss Walter Mazzarri rates De Silvestri very highly and would like to keep him, seeing him as a vital part of his project going forward.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Yes and no.

De Silvestri has undeniably had a fantastic season for Torino, netting seven goals and registering four assists in all competitions for Mazzarri’s side.

That kind of output from right-back would be brilliant for Newcastle, with current incumbent DeAndre Yedlin only managing two assists.

However, De Silvestri’s age is a big issue here, with the 30-year-old not offering much of a return on their investment in years to come, and surely sticking with Yedlin would be the sensible option.

Nothing but Newcastle rating: 4/10

Likely to happen?

It looks like Mazzarri is pretty keen to keep De Silvestri on board at Torino this summer, but how much that will have a bearing on things is unknown.

You would think it likely that if he does move it would be to another Serie A team, with a move to the Premier League for a 30-year-old wing-back a risky move.

Therefore, a Newcastle move would seem unlikely.
