Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles has posted his thanks on Twitter after being named the club’s Player of the Year, and fans have reacted by pleading with him to stay at the club this summer.
The 24-year-old centre-back was in brilliant form all season for the Magpies, turning out 35 times in all competitions and scoring three goals in the process.
His form was thought to have seen him in contention for a spot on the plane as part of the England squad for this summer’s World Cup, but he was disappointingly left out by Gareth Southgate.
He has however been rewarded by the club after being named Player of the Year on Wednesday, and has now delivered his vercit and thanks on Twitter.
Lascelles is the subject of reported interest from some big clubs in the Premier League, with Tottenham, Chelsea, and Everton all linked with a move for the 24-year-old enforcer.
The 6ft 2in ace [Transfermarkt] has however seemingly dismissed any thoughts of him leaving the club after admitting his happiness at St. James Park in a pretty definitive declaration of loyalty on Tuesday.
That has not stopped fans reacting to his Twitter post by pleading with him to remain at the club, with others merely excited after his efforts were recognised with the award.
Nothing but Newcastle have rounded up some of the best tweets:
