Newcastle United have made contact with Italian giants Juventus about their midfielder Stefano Sturaro, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian news outlet claims that the Magpies have made an enquiry for the 25-year-old and requested further information regarding his availability.

It is understood that an exit could be on the cards for the enforcer and that Spanish outfit Valencia are also keen on his signature.

Good move for Newcastle?

Sturaro may not have been a regular starter during his four-year spell in Turin, but there is no doubt he is a serial winner and has the trophy cabinet to prove it.

The central midfielder has four Serie A titles and four Italian cups under his belt, but has been a squad player during the 2017/18 season.

He has made 19 appearances across all competitions and the four-time Italy international is hardly someone that would light up St James’ Park with his rugged style.

Sturaro has a decent work-rate to help him provide a defensive screen, but offers very little going forward and Newcastle could probably do better.

Likely to happen?

A potential Sturaro exit would come as no surprise this summer and Newcastle have made contact about his future, but surely a new centre-forward has to be the priority for manager Rafael Benitez.
