Newcastle United need to massively improve their frontline in the 2018/19 season and plotting a move to sign Liverpool ace Ben Woodburn could help revive their attack.

The 18-year-old left-winger is a Reds starlet with colossal potential and could be a good like-for-like replacement with Kenedy following his return to Chelsea from the Magpies.

However, Rafael Benitez’s side would have to fend off competition for Woodburn if they wanted to bring him to St James’ Park on loan next year.

The Daily Express reports that Rangers’ new manager Steven Gerrard wants to take the Wales international to Ibrox on a temporary basis.

It is understood that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told ex-Red captain Gerrard he would help him with loans where possible ahead of his switch to Scotland.

However, Newcastle need to try hijack Gerrard’s interest and the offer of Premier League football next year should be great leverage for them over the Scottish division.

Woodburn is a tricky wide man that has dazzled at youth level and also forced his way into Wales’ senior team, scoring on his debut against Austria in 2017.

The 5ft 7in (source: Transfermrkt) winger is a skilful technician with an eye for goal and just needs to experience regular first-team football away from Anfield to develop his game.

He has had a taste of senior action with 11 appearances for Liverpool and it’s easy to see why there is so much hype surrounding the rising star.

Newcastle would reap the rewards of taking him to St James’ Park, as Woodburn could get supporters of his seat with his quick dribbling and direct approach.
