Colback is finished at Newcastle, we knew as much last summer when Benitez banished the Killingworth-born midfielder to train with under-23 squad at the club’s academy before Nottingham Forest took him on loan for the rest of the season in January.
His performances at the City Ground have been encouraging and there’s hope that Forest will seek a permanent move for Colback in the summer, slashing his exorbitant salary from the wage bill in the process. Should that not transpire, Benitez will be forced to renew his efforts to permanently offload a player that has transcended the term ‘surplus to requirements’.
