Newcastle United have made a difficult call regarding the future of one midfield prodigy, with reports claiming that the club are set to release a once highly-rated talent.

The Evening Chronicle state Newcastle will allow Mackenzie Heaney to leave St. James’ Park upon the expiration of his contract this summer, despite the 19-year-old being touted as one of the club’s best prospects in recent years.

Capped at youth level for England, Heaney has struggled for football this season and has failed to break into the club’s U23 side, making just seven appearances, and is now poised to leave the Tyneside giants this summer.

Despite the blow, Heaney is expected to seal a move quickly and Championship outfit Norwich City are currently regarded as the most likely destination for the teenager, as he spent time on trial with the Canaries last week.

Newcastle are set for a reserve revamp this summer but Heaney won’t be a part of it, instead finding himself amongst the plethora of youngsters that will be release from Rafael Benitez’s side.
