Newcastle United are set for a busy summer period as they seek to bolster their side for next season, which they hope will see them play in the Premier League once again.

The Magpies hold a four point cushion over the relegation zone with eight matches to play but also boast a game in hand over some of their rivals near the foot of the table, which may be enough to secure their top-flight status for another year.

Rafael Benitez is keen to improve his squad though and one name linked with a move to St. James’ Park is Bristol City’s Joe Bryan, with the left-back emerging as a target for the Spaniard during the January window.

However, The Bristol Post state Everton have now joined the hunt for the 24-year-old, who scored a wonder strike against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, and Newcastle could miss out.

The Robins did not want to sell the full-back in January due to their push for promotion to the Premier League but, having slipped outside the play-off spots, could listen to offers worth £7m this summer.
