Newcastle United have struggled for movement on the January transfer window but the catalyst for signings could be handed to them this week.

The Daily Express states Newcastle will approve the departure of Jonjo Shelvey this week, with the England international set to move to East London for a £12m fee that will provide Rafael Benitez with a financial boost.

Benitez is frustrated with the lack of finances he has available to him this month, as he seeks to make three significant signings in the window but has had to be forced to look at loan moves.

However, the £12m that the Magpies could earn from approving the departure of Shelvey would provide a financial boost that could lead Benitez to bolster his squad with signings on a permanent basis.

The Magpies are closing in on a loan deal to sign Kenedy from Chelsea but are also seeking to land a new top-class striker and a new goalkeeper.
