Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is determined to improve his attacking options during the January transfer window, after seeing his Magpies side score just 20 times in 22 matches so far this term.

The Spaniard is likely to be frustrated with his side’s lack of movement so far but it seems that’s set to change this weekend, with The Daily Mail stating yesterday that Newcastle will open talks with Yannick Toure in the next 24 hours.

A highly-rated Swiss teenager, Toure has been eyed by the likes of Arsenal and RB Leipzig in recent months but it appears that Newcastle are set to win the race for one of the best prospect to emerge from Swiss football since Schalke’s Breel Embolo.

Newcastle would only have to pay a compensation fee to Toure’s BSC Young Boys, as he’s yet to sign a professional deal, and this signing would certainly be one for the future rather than providing an immediate boost to Benitez’s attacking ranks.

Beating a number of top clubs to the youngster’s signature would certainly be a statement of intent for the Magpies ahead of the coming years, where the Tyneside outfit will look to establish themselves as a stable club within the Premier League.
