Newcastle United face uncertainty due to the ongoing takeover speculation and there’s a growing fear that they could lose a key figure at the end of the season.

The Daily Express states that the Tyneside club are fearful that Rafael Benitez could walk at the end of the campaign if a takeover is not completed, after regularly making his frustrations clear during recent transfer windows.

Benitez was left unhappy by a lack of spending in the summer but things looked to be improving when Mike Ashley put the club up for sale. However, takeover talks have rumbled on and the Spanish boss is still restricted in the January market.

Newcastle do not believe that Benitez would walk midway through the campaign but the experienced manager may well call time on his spell at Tyneside this summer if he believes the situation at the club hasn’t improved.

That would be a disastrous blow to Newcastle, with many believing that Benitez is currently the glue holding the side together during his difficult and testing period- so a departure could leave things in a sticky mess.
