Newcastle United look poised to wave goodbye to at least two players in the January transfer window, with Rafael Benitez naming two members of his squad who aren’t needed.

The Northern Echo states Benitez has confirming that Jamie Sterry and Jack Colback, as expected, are both surplus to requirements and an exit for the pair is increasingly likely during this month’s window.

“At the moment, apart from (Jamie) Sterry and (Jack) Colback, the others are players that maybe we will need.”

Benitez has so far failed to land any new faces in January and has seen his finances continue to be limited by Mike Ashley, whilst the club remains up for sale and negotiations regarding a takeover are ongoing.

The Spanish boss is hopeful of concluding two loan deals this window, the first of which will see Pape Souare move to the club from Crystal Palace, as well as signing a new first-team goalkeeper to improve the first-team.

Once a new stopper is secured, a loan exit for England U20 World Cup winner is likely as he seeks first-team action to continue his development.
