Newcastle United have been given a significant update in the ongoing takeover talks, with reports stating an increased offer will be made.

The Daily Express reveals that Amanda Staveley and PCP are readying a new offer in excess of £300m to buy Mike Ashley’s majority stake in the Tyneside club, after further talks with the Sports Direct magnate in the past week.

Ashley had been on holiday in Miami but has now returned to England to continue negotiations on a sale of the Premier League side- but it’s understood he’s holding out to wait on the new TV deal before making a final decision.

Unfortunately, the outcome of this bid will not change anything on the field immediately as Rafael Benitez won’t enjoy a cash windfall to spend in the January transfer window- which means that he’ll continue to operate within a limited budget.

Benitez is desperate to bolster his ranks during this month’s window and the capture of Pape Souare on-loan from Crystal Palace looks likely, whilst the Tyneside outfit will continue to push for a new goalkeeper and a new striker.
