Newcastle United are seeking attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window and seem prepared to keep their business close to home.

The Daily Mail states that Newcastle have enquired about Leicester City striker Islam Slimani, who has struggled to settle in the Premier League since joining the then defending champions in 2016.

Newcastle need consistency in their attacking line, which they’ve struggled to find this season, and a shake-up is likely, with Aleksandar Mitrovic likely to leave and Dwight Gayle also reportedly being chased by other clubs.

The Magpies were interested in a move in the summer but were priced out of a move, with Leicester looking to recoup the £30m they paid Sporting Lisbon a year ago- something that Newcastle could not afford.

Unfortunately, the chances of securing a cut-price deal looks to be slim as it’s stated that a number of other Premier League sides are interested in the Algerian; including the likes of Stoke City, West Brom and Watford.
