Newcastle United have found themselves in a difficult slump after eight defeats in their last nine Premier League matches, which has seen the Magpies drop into the relegation zone after securing just one point from the last 28 available.

Rafael Benitez is keen to spend in January to bolster his struggling side and, with uncertainties on the club’s future due to ongoing takeover speculation, pursuing loan deals may be the best course of action for the Magpies.

The Spaniard is identifying targets and reports fromĀ The Shield GazetteĀ remarkably state that Benitez is looking at a deal for Chelsea’s Premier League winning defender David Luiz, who he worked with during his brief stint at Stamford Bridge.

Should Luiz be available, the Brazilian will be highly coveted and a deal would be extremely difficult for Newcastle to complete. However, they would be able to offer first-team football that Luiz will seek ahead of the World Cup in Russia.

The 30-year-old has earned 56 caps for his nation and is likely to be a key-player for the South Americans next summer.
