Newcastle United are interested in signing Fulham star Tom Cairney this January, reports the Northern Echo.
The Magpies have had a long standing interest in the midfielder and saw bids as high as £20 million rejected for Cairney by the Cottagers during the summer and manager Rafael Benitez is expected to go in again for the 26-year-old after the New Year.
The Toon army however are torn on links with he Scotland international.
Cairney signed a new four-year-contract at Craven Cottage during the summer but has endured a difficult start to the season through injury, and has made only seven appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal since the beginning of the new campaign.
The 26-year-old was Fulham’s key man last season as they finished 6th and made the play-off semi-finals, making 51 appearances and scoring 13 goals. He was also named the club’s and the EFL Player of the Year.
After a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Magpies fans remain unconvinced that the Scot would be a wise investment at this moment in time …

He's not done very much this season. Both him and Fulham have disappointed.

Cairney has underperformed this season …
