Newcastle United have performed admirably in their return to the Premier League and a sense of optimism has washed over the club in recent months due to ongoing takeover talks.

Controversial owner Mike Ashley aims to complete a sale before Christmas, which could hand the club cash to spend in January under new owners, but they’ve be warned by a respected pundit about a big problem that they face.

Quoted by The Chronicle, Manchester United legend Gary Neville discussed his respect for Newcastle but stated attracting players to the North East is extremely difficult as they would usually prefer to play in London.

“It is difficult attracting players to the north-east. I would love to see a new owner come in. It is a wonderful football club.”

“You think of Newcastle and Leeds, who are really big, big clubs and I think it would strengthen the league to have these clubs pushing towards the top again. It is a problem getting players out of London – it is a big attraction.”

Newcastle will hope that any new money coming in can overcome that issue, as Manchester City found following their takeover, but it still remains a concern for the club.
