Anderlecht are interested in signing a striker in the January transfer window, and may consider a bid for Newcastle forward Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to Het Laatse Nieuws.

The Belgian club’s head coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck has asked his board to find a player to strengthen his forward line and Anderlecht may use the links between agent Christophe Henrotay and the Magpies to secure the return of Mitrovic.

Henrotay was involved in the the transfer that saw Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba move to Newcastle in July 2015, and was also involved when Matz Sels made the loan move to Anderlecht in the summer.

Mitrovic has failed to start a single Premier League game this season, and was left out of the squad altogether for the 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Monday. When asked by Sky Sports earlier this week whether the Serbian international still had a future at Newcastle, manager Rafa Benitez reiterated that the 23 year old must fight for his first team place.
