Crystal Palace will look to beat Newcastle in the race to sign Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun in the January transfer window, according to Daily Mail journalist Kieran Gill.

The Turkish international has been heavily linked with the Magpies in recent months as Rafa Benitez seeks to strengthen his forward options, but Palace are said to have put the 26 year old top of their list of striker targets.

The club’s manager Roy Hodgson confirmed after the 2-2 draw against West Ham on Saturday that he was planning on making a number of additions to the squad when the window reopens, and it seems Tosun will be a priority signing.

Palace have been without first choice centre forward Christian Benteke for a number of games after the Belgian picked up a knee injury back in September. It was expected the 26 year old would be out for six weeks but it looks likely he will be out for longer.

Tosun is therefore seen as someone who could support Benteke in the second half of the season. The Premier League side will however face competition for the player with the likes of Wolfsburg, AC Milan and Newcastle also looking at the £20m rated striker.
