Newcastle midfielder Dan Barlaser says he is targeting a loan move in the January transfer window.

The 20 year old has signed a new contract to extend his stay at St James’ Park for a further two years but he says he is keen on a temporary move away from the Magpies in order to gain more first team experience. He told NUFC TV:

“I want to get on loan in January, show what I can do, and hopefully be back and ready to play for the first-team. By the time this contract is up, hopefully I will be playing in the Premier League.”

Barlaser has not featured in the league under manager Rafa Benitez this season, but he was given an opportunity by the Spaniard in the Carabao Cup back in September.

The midfielder played 70 minutes in the extra time defeat against Nottingham Forest in the second round of the competition. He has also played for the club’s under 23 side in the EFL Trophy, having started the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra back in August, as well as the 1-0 defeat against Port Vale earlier this month.

Barlaser has been linked with moves to Turkey over the past year or so, after choosing to play for the country at youth level, but his contract extension confirms he will be staying in England for a good while longer.
