Newcastle scouts have given manager Rafa Benitez glowing reports about Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, according to the Sun.

The Uruguayan international has been in good form for his Turkish club, and it’s likely the stopper’s name has been added to a list of names that the Magpies will look to target in the January transfer window.

Muslera has spent six years in Turkey after moving from Lazio in 2011. He is Uruguay’s number one goalkeeper, and is closing on a century of caps for his country with 94 to his name so far.

The Sun report that despite being one of Galatasaray’s key players, the keeper could be available for as little as £8m. That valuation seems to be a bit on the low side considering the Uruguayan only signed a four year contract extension back in July.

In any case, it seems Benitez will be active in January, despite club takeover talks dominating the agenda. The Chronicle are reporting that the club are currently scouting more targets in Germany.
