Former Chelsea and QPR midfielder Ray Wilkins has praised Jonjo Shelvey following his performance against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
Shelvey starred for Rafael Benitez’s side as the Magpies held the Reds to a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park, with many calling for the midfielder to be called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad following his impressive display.
Amongst his admirers was Wilkins, who has labelled the 25-year-old one of the league’s best passers of the ball.
“Let’s give Jonjo a little bit of credit as well because that young man can pass a football,” said Wilkins on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on TalkSPORT.
“I know he has got other things to his game that we don’t necessarily like, but given time and space, he passes it as well as anybody.”
Shelvey joined the Magpies from Swansea City in January of 2016 for the reported fee of £12 million and has since made 63 appearances for Rafael Benitez’s side and scored 5 times.
