4 great Freddy Shepherd moments at Newcastle United

|

Signing Alan Shearer

Tasked with bringing Alan Shearer ‘home’ in 2006, Freddy Shepherd gave Newcastle United one of their most iconic players of all-time as they signed the England striker from Blackburn Rovers, where he had won the Premier League, for a then world-record fee of £15m.

Shearer would go on to become a legend in the North East, scoring 148 Premier League goals in 303 appearances for the Tyneside giants, finishing his career as the all-time Premier League top goalscorer with 260 goals.

He’d later return to the club as a manager in 2009 but could not save the club from relegation to the Championship.
