Freddie Woodman is as desperate as Rafa Benitez to see Newcastle sign a new goalkeeper.

According to an interview in The Chronicle the young keeper wants to get out on loan to play matches rather than sit on the Newcastle bench as understudy to Rob Elliot.

Benitez has been linked with a number of keepers including Joe Hart and Willy Caballero since the end of the season and is prepared to let the experienced duo of Karl Darlow and Tim Krul move on.

Northampton Town, Bury, Kilmarnock and Heart of Midlothian have all expressed an interest in the England u-20 goalkeeper who spent the second half of last season on loan at Kilmarnock.

Until a new keeper is signed Woodman will have to stay on at Newcastle as back-up to Elliot which could restrict his options elsewhere as managers put their plans in place for the new season with the EFL starting this weekend.
