According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney is reportedly a loan target for Paul Cook and Wigan Athletic.

The Latics are preparing for life back in League One after their relegation from the Championship last season and, with that in mind, are thought to be casting keen eyes over the 21-year-old marksman.

Though the 2015 summer signing may face a difficult task of getting much in the way of first-team football at St. James’ Park, he did impress during two loan spells last term, at Shrewsbury Town and Scunthorpe United respectively.

Indeed, he bagged 6 goals at both teams, despite making just nine starts with the latter and the Iron have previously been reported to remain keen on his services.

Still, Wigan are reportedly willing to listen to offers for Omar Bogle – who was ironically touted as a potential signing on Tyneside back in January – and apparently want Toney as a potential replacement.

Though he’s certainly shown some promise in the lower leagues, loaning him out once more in a situation somewhat akin to Adam Armstrong’s may be a wise decision by the club, considering their chase for a big-name central striker to spearhead their Premier League campaign.
