Jack Colback looks to have played his last game for Newcastle United after falling out with Rafa Benitez, according to the Daily Mail

The 27-year-old midfielder is understood to have refused to train with the first-team when asked after being left out of the Magpies’ 25-man Premier League squad. Indeed, as a result, he’s thought to have been banished from the club’s training ground by the Spaniard.

Colback was reportedly already training away from the first-team when he refused to take the place of a player who picked up a knock, a move which is said to have infuriated Rafa Benitez. On Friday, the former Sunderland man is thought to have reported for training after his teammates had finished and made to work alone.

It’s a further fall from grace for Colback, whose form once earned him a call-up to the English national side under Roy Hodgson way back in August 2014. Much was expected of the boyhood Magpie upon his arrival on a free from the Black Cats, though he’s struggled to wholly convince and the Toon Army are now believed to be looking to sell him

His reported wages of around £40k-p/w may be an issue, though there is seemingly no future for him in black and white, with the likes of Mikel Merino and Isaac Hayden emerging as more dynamic midfield options.
