According to the Daily Star, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez believes Stoke City marksman Joselu will bring a more physical presence to his frontline.

The Spaniard is reportedly close to joining the Magpies for around £5m to become the club’s sixth summer signing, with the Toon Army reviving a move after a bid was rejected not too long ago.

Indeed, Dwight Gayle led the line during the season opener against Tottenham Hotspur and the lack of physicality up front was painfully evident. Though Newcastle United’s top scorer last season will undoubtedly play a big role this term, there is clearly a need for a stronger option.

There is, of course, Aleksandar Mitrovic, though Benitez has never seemed to trust the Serbian forward, who lacks mobility.

Perhaps Joselu isn’t the marquee marksmen many were hoping to arrive on Tyneside this summer but he does certainly provide Newcastle with more options in central striking berths.
