Newcastle have agreed a deal worth up to £6m for Lewis Gibson.

According to a report in the Liverpool Echo Everton have completed the deal that will see the 17 year old defender move to Goodison Park.

Gibson will step into the Everton u-23 where he will come under the wing of former Goodison defender David Unsworth.

Everton have a well established youth set up that has regularly developed young talent for the first team but it remains to be seen if that continues under Ronald Koeman.

The Dutchman has spent extensively in the close season to give the club a stronger squad than they ever had under Davie Moyes or Roberto Martinez.

Losing Gibson is a blow to Newcastle but in the current climate everything is geared to putting up a strong performance in the Premier League next season.

The 17 year old wasn’t a contender for a first team place in the season ahead with Rafa Benitez having plenty of other priorities.
