Watford will rival Newcastle for the signing of Andre Carrillo.

According to a report in The Sun the Benfica winger seems certain to be playing his football in the Premier League once the new season kicks off.

The 26-year-old was on the fringes of the Benfica side last season but with Premier League clubs searching for pacey wingers his name has come to the fore.

Watford’s Portuguese manager Marco Silva worked with Carrilo at Sporting Lisbon and has been backed by his directors since switching from Hull last month.

Rafa Benitez has had a tougher time in the transfer market but has began to see some of his targets sign up with Jacob Murphy joining up with Florian Lejeune at their training base in Ireland.

After putting the spotlight on Mike Ashley over transfer activity the ball is in the court of the Sports Direct chief to deliver the players his manager needs for the return to the Premier League.
