Newcastle’s goalkeeping riddle is likely to deepen with Darren Randolph poised to join Middlesbrough.

According to Pete O’Rourke the West Ham keeper is bound for the Riverside despite being linked with a move to Newcastle once Joe Hart’s West Ham loan had been completed.

In another twist to the deal Randolph’s move closes the door on the prospect of Karl Darlow joining ‘Boro although the keeper is also wanted by Reading.

Newcastle have been linked with half a dozen keepers since clinching promotion but one by one they have been getting fixed up elsewhere with Randolph following in the footsteps of Hart and Willy Caballero.

Yesterday Rafa Benitez claimed that he was happy to start the season with Rob Elliot in goals while he looks to bring in experienced competition for the keepers jersey.

Elliot finished last season as the club’s first choice keeper but has made less than 50 league appearances in six years at the club.
