Newcastle are preparing a £10m offer for Sheyi Ojo.
According to a report in The Sun Newcastle are ready to change their approach and put in a cash bid for the winger rather than offer to take him on loan.
It seemed likely that the 20-year-old would go on loan to Middlesbrough but with Liverpool needing funds to prepare for the Champions League £10m for an untried youngster could prove tempting.
News of the change of approach comes at the same time as Newcastle are trying to complete a deal for Norwich’s Jacob Murphy.
Whether the Ojo ‘offer’ is a ploy to push through the Murphy deal is open to debate but it does highlight Rafa Benitez’s desire to bring in new faces as he attempts to steer Newcastle well clear of relegation on their return to the Premier League.
Florian Lejeune and Christian Atsu are the only new signings with Atsu converting his loan move from Chelsea into a permanent deal.
