Adam Armstrong has been left out of the Newcastle squad in Ireland so that he can sort out a new loan deal.

According to a report in The Chronicle the striker has been left out of the 27 man squad that is preparing for the new season in Ireland.

Armstrong managed six Championship goals for Barnsley last season but will need to improve on that next term if he wants to have a future at St James’ Park.

Newcastle were keen to bring Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham in on loan after he hit 26 goals last season at Bristol City with Armstrong knowing that he needs to produce that sort of return.

Barnsley are interested in taking Armstrong back to Oakwell with newly promoted Bolton also keen although striking a deal to pay a portion of the strikers £15,000/week wages could be a problem.

Tom Heardman has already completed a loan deal to Bury.
