Doubt has been cast over Newcastle’s interest in Sam Clucas.

The Hull midfielder is expected to remain in the Premier League but according to a report in The Chronicle there are no imminent plans to bring Clucas to St James’ Park.

According to the Chronicle bringing in a striker and a goalkeeper are the transfer priorities of Rafa Benitez as he looks to bring in new faces to the club.

The goalkeeping search has been on going since the transfer window opened with speculation ranging from Joe Hart to Adrian of West Ham.

Bringing in Tammy Abraham on loan from Chelsea was the first striking target but speculation on a follow up target has been thin on the ground.

During January Newcastle were linked with James McCarthy, Tom Ince and Tom Cairney but for now it seems that midfield isn’t a priority even though the fee for Lucas would come in comfortably under the unofficial £10m transfer fee ceiling.
