Metz are preparing a bid for Emmanuel Riviere.

According to a report on 10 Sport the out of favour Newcastle striker could be on his way back to Ligue 1.

Riviere spent last season out on loan at Osasuna but failed to find the net from eight starts and seven substitute appearances.

Rafa Benitez is looking to clear the decks of players surplus to requirements with the 27 year old written off as a Newcastle player a year ago.

Even though striking numbers are down following the departure of Daryl Murphy to Nottingham Forest Benitez has no intention of giving Riviere another chance.

Riviere was signed in a £5m deal from Monaco is 2014 but managed just one Premier League goal since joining.

With a year left on his contract Newcastle will be happy to bring in a token fee in exchange for removing the player from the club wage bill.
