Newcastle are set to bid for Sam Clucas.

According to a report in the Daily Mail the Hull midfielder could be on his way to St James’ Park in a deal worth between £8-10m.

Clucas won the Hull Player of the Year award last season and is expected to receive offers from a number of Premier League clubs including Leicester who released him as a 16-year-old.

Last season the 26 year old was converted from a winger into a central midfielder who attracted the attention of Gareth Southgate.

Over the last couple of days Newcastle have missed out on Tom Ince and Tom Cairney who were among Rafa Benitez’s top midfield targets.

After getting the Florian Lejeine deal from Eibar completed Benitez is hoping to bring in a number of new faces with an emphasis on players who have experience of the Premier League.

Despite Hull’s relegation Clucas had an impressive season and is almost certain to move on to another Premier League club for the new season.
