Newcastle face a battle with West Ham for the signing of Andre Gray.

According to a report in The Shields Gazette both clubs are ready to give the Burnley striker the pay deal that he wants to stay on at Turf Moor.

The goals of Gray helped fire Sean Dyche’s side to promotion and Premier League safety but after avoiding the drop Burnley face a round of pay rises to keep their stars.

A pay packet of £70,000/week won’t trouble West Ham or Newcastle with both clubs looking to bring in a striker capable of hitting 15 Premier League goals per season.

With Tammy Abraham opting for Swansea ahead of Newcastle Rafa Benitez is stepping up his interest in other striking options.

Gray’s progress through the ranks from non-league to the top flight has been earned with Benitez confident that the 26-year-old can handle the demands of playing for Newcastle and fire in the goals to ensure a top half finish in the Premier League.
