Anderlecht are close to completing a season long loan for Matz Sels.

According to a report in The Chronicle the goalkeeper has already undergone pre-season tests with the Belgian side who have agreed a loan deal that will see them pay the keeper’s wages in full.

Sels started last season as Newcastle’s first choice keeper but was relegated to cup duty as Karl Darlow took over as Rafa Benitez’s first choice keeper.

Despite having four keepers with first team experience in the squad Rafa Benitez is keen to bring in a top notch stopper for Newcastle’s return to the Premier League.

Pepe Reina has been strongly linked with being reunited with his old Liverpool boss with Sels taking the opportunity to get out on loan and battle for first team football with Anderlecht.

Newcastle paid Gent £5m for Sels last summer but it seems likely that the 25-year-old’s future lies elsewhere.
