Celtic have joined Newcastle in the race to sign Tammy Abraham.

According to a report in The Sun the Scottish champions have made an enquiry about the Chelsea striker who is currently on England duty at the u21 European Championships in Poland.

Abraham made a huge impression on loan last season at Bristol City where he scored 26 times with Chelsea keen to test the 19-year-old at a higher level.

Newcastle, Brighton and Swansea are all prepared to offer Premier League football but at Celtic there is the prospect of playing in the Champions League.

Brendan Rodgers side have to negotiate their way through three qualifying rounds to reach the group phase but appearing on that stage last season put Moussa Dembele on centre stage.

Rafa Benitez has used his personal contacts to convince Chelsea to send the striker to St James’ Park but Brendan Rodgers also has connections at Stamford Bridge from his time as reserve coach when Jose Mourinho was in charge for the first time.
